Energy Tracking: Why It’s Done and What You Need

As a retailer of power monitoring equipment, your customers are going to request for various devices for different purposes. You have to be familiar with the principles and the tools needed for these purposes, so you can assist your clients well. Here are some common reasons why energy tracking is done and what devices may be needed:

Reducing energy consumption

Management of resources definitely count as among the most basic purposes of energy tracking. By rigorously monitoring electricity loads, the company can find areas where they can reduce utility costs. Accurate sensors and data transmitters can be used to identify the peak times of energy use, the resources (e.g. HVACs, computers, etc.) that use the most electricity, and other relevant information. These data can be a basis for new conservation policies or timely equipment replacements.

Determining the needed alternative energy sources

Power monitoring can also be used to find out how much backup power a building needs, or what specific renewable energy systems are appropriate. Applying split core transformers to electrical lines and using transmitters for data viewing, a company can measure the power they need to operate daily and determine the type or amount of generators or solar power devices they need, especially in case of power outages, or in sustainability applications. The energy tracking setup can also be used to gather baseline data, which may be needed in evaluating the efficiency of alternative energy generators.
